Wilco is one of the few "newer" bands that can do it live for me. I really, really like them with Nels Cline on guitar.

...but i do know what you mean re live acts "knocking" your socks off....

Alright, well thanks Rob, BD and all the rest for the insights and tidbits on lineups...I just haven't been paying attn til lately so this is all new to me.

I have a handful of shows over 35 yrs that really impressed me. One was a Kingfish show, another was the DEAD in GGPark in 75; then Winwood only a few yrs ago, and Jimmy Cliff (though in a kinda lowkey way); plus, a Jerry Riopelle and John Stewart show in the 70s...but out of the dozens and dozens I went to, really only those few and a couple I am forgetting knocked my socks off.

Hoping for that with Winwood and Claption in June, BD!

now there's one that REALLY surprised me. Saw a crossroads or some such on PBS with Clapton and Winwood, I think it predated their last tour. Anyway sounded every bit as fresh as the original Blind Faith. I was very surprised and impressed. I always wondered why Winwood had to fall and stay in overproduced pop land, such a great voice.

Me too. On all counts. Really enjoyed that on PBS as well.

If you have any interest in funk and soul, check out Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Most fun I've ever had at a show. You can still catch them at smaller venues (less than 5000 capacity). Here's a clip to getcha going:
